Hurricane Irma strengthened back to a category 5 storm, the National Hurricane Center said Friday evening.
Irma is making landfall in Cuba, where it will move west overnight before turning northward on Saturday. Irma is forecast to hit Florida Sunday morning as a Category 5 Storm.
Mandatory evacuations are in effect for millions of people covering large parts of southern Florida. Residents who haven't already left are being advised to head to local shelters before the storm hits.
Irma is expected to bring dramatic storm surges of up to 12 feet in some places. People who don't leave are being warned of power outages and shortages of food, water and gas that could last for days
President Trump is warning about Hurricane Irma. In a videotaped message on social media, Trump said Irma is packing historic, destructive potential. He urged everyone in the storm's path to be vigilant and heed the warnings of local and state officials.
The President said nothing is more important than the safety and security of the American people.
Trump will be monitoring Irma from Camp David this weekend.
