Brad Pitt believes that daughter Shiloh dropping "Pitt" from her surname was "deeper" than a simple name change.

A source exclusively revealed to Us Weekly that the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor was "devastated" by his daughter's choice to change her name.

"Brad was devastated by this choice. To him, it was more than a change of name — it was a symbol of a deeper estrangement that has been brewing for years.”

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, now Shiloh Jolie, filed legal paperwork to remove the latter half of her surname on her 18th birthday last month. The teen is not the only one of Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children to drop "Pitt" amid rumors of estrangement from their father in recent years.

The former pair's eldest son Maddox, 22, was the first sibling to stop using his father's last name on "documents that weren't legal" in 2021. Daughters Zahara 19, and Vivienne, 15, have also been very open about their desire to loose part of their last name, using just "Jolie" when introducing themselves at public events. While sons Knox, 15, and Pax, 20, have not publicly revealed which last name they prefer, Pax gave social media followers an inside look into his relationship with Pitt in 2020, referring to his dad as a “world class a–hole” in a Father's Day Instagram post.

Pitt and Jolie split in 2016, and, after a lengthy legal battle, Jolie retained full custody of their six children while Pitt was granted "therapeutic visits."

The source also told Us Weekly that Pitt hopes to “forge a bond with the kids as they get older and have a life of their own.”
