Being engaged is an exciting time in any relationship as lovebirds plan their future lives together, but for some couples, not everything goes smoothly when sharing the happy news. Rebel Wilson, who came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in 2022 by revealing her relationship with now-fiancée Ramona Agruma, recently opened up about some of the adversity they have faced close to home.
The Pitch Perfect star spoke to Today.com where she revealed that she still hasn't met her fiancée's family, but has plans to do so in the near future when they, along with their 19-month-old daughter Royce, travel to Europe. Agruma's family is from Latvia, per Entertainment Tonight.
"I just think some people need a bit more time — and some people won't ever come around to it, and that's fine, and that's their decision," Wilson said. "There are still parts of the world that aren't as accepting."
Wilson and Agruma went public with their relationship in 2022 after an Australian publication reportedly threatened to out them; however, their decision to share their romance still had an effect on Agruma's family who didn't get the hear the news from her directly.
"Some people in her family didn't quite know, and found out via the press," she said. "I feel really lucky because from my side, I've had literally not one negative reaction."
One thing that the Rebel Rising author said is bridging the gap is their daughter, who Wilson said has been a "real icebreaker," adding that Agruma's family has been FaceTiming with her, leading Wilson to be optimistic about the future.
Wilson announced in November 2022 in an heartfelt post that she had welcomed her "beautiful miracle" daughter Royce Lillian via surrogate, saying her birth had been "years in the making."
