Lufthansa Group announced plans to eliminate 4,000 jobs by 2030 while boosting artificial intelligence, digitalization and consolidating work among member airlines on Monday (September 29) in a statement obtained by the New York Post.

The majority of the positions cut will be administrative jobs in Germany, rather than operational roles, according to the company. Lufthansa, which is Germany's biggest airline, claimed it was focused on the integration among member airlines and was "reviewing which activities will be no longer necessary int he future, for instance due to duplication of work."

Lufthansa Group includes its flagship namesake airline, as well as Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and others. The company said “profound changes brought about by digitalization and artificial intelligence” would improve efficiency among business areas and activities in its statement released on Monday.

Lufthansa Group said it revealed its strategic plans during a presentation for investors and analysts in Munich, claiming to have seen a strong demand for air travel as it limited flight offerings as its supply chains for planes and engines struggled to meet expectations. The company said it expects to see “significantly increased profitability” and planned to have its largest fleet modernization in history, with more than 230 new aircrafts, including 100 long-haul aircrafts, by 2030.
