Scientists Are Figuring Out How To Trick COVID-19 With Nasal Spray

Here's today's feel-good story:

Ohio State University scientists are working to figure out how to trick COVID-19 from invading cells with the use of a nasal spray.

In scientific terms: scientists have developed protein fragments which are called peptides that can fit within the grooves of the SARS-CoV-2 protein which trick the virus into "shaking hands" with a replica, rather than the actual protein on a cell's surface that allows the virus in.

“Our goal is that any time SARS-CoV-2 comes into contact with the peptides, the virus will be inactivated,” said Amit Sharma, co-lead author of the study and assistant professor of veterinary biosciences at Ohio State. “To do this, we have to get to the virus while it’s still outside the cell.”
